Why I LOVE Cali. (Or gratuitous food porn).

Here's the Salade Nicoise I had for brunch at St. Michael's Alley. We walked here in the brilliant "winter" sun, me in my flip flops and sweats, smelled blooming flowers, counted lemon trees... I think I miss some things in Boston... but right now, I can't remember what those things are.

Can you SEE HOW FRESH THIS STUFF IS? And no, it wasn't a $30 salad. Dude, this stuff is impossible to find in Boston, unless you go to... mmmm... maybe Newbury St. or something. NOT IN A SUBURB within walking distance to lots of houses.
That's seared tuna there. Yes, the tarragon vinaigrette was ever so light, not goopy, and they didn't smother the greens. The greens were still unwilted as I finished the salad. I requested no potatoes since I like the salad sans potatoes. I know, that's weird. I made up for it by eating Saki's home fries.

Californian Hass Avocados. Creamy good.

Sweet, sweet tomaters

To make you drool a bit more.

Not fair. The DC equivalent is shrivelled iceberg garnished with a subtle thousand island, and if you're lucky, a few strands of that purple cabbage slaw that was all the rage in 1973.

Agreed. My brothers moved back to California from the East Coast. I'm a little jealous. Love the blog.
